Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Level 2 Airside WCs
Overview
Creation of new airside WCs to Departures at Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Project
With passenger numbers increasing again after the pandemic, Liverpool John Lennon Airport approached us to undertake the design and creation of a new toilet block within the Departures Lounge. The scheme was negotiated directly with us based on our historic work at the airport prior to the pandemic.
Details
The works involved creating a new male and female toilet facility from an existing waiting area within the airside Departures Lounge. We worked closely with the Airport’s Development Team to design the works, inviting feedback and input from several of the Airport’s key teams.
This required use of a bespoke hoarding system to segregate our works from the general public in Departures. Once the hoarding was erected out of hours, our works involved:
Creation of new stud partitions to form the WCs themselves, and the cubicles;
Installation of a new lighting design;
Installation of new plumbing and sanitary ware;
Alterations to the existing mechanical ventilation to increase its output;
New tiled floors; and
New IPS panels and cubicle doors and vanity units for sinks to sit upon.
Moreover, as the scheme was “airside” (i.e. beyond security check points), we had to adhere to very strict vetting requirements for all, staff, materials, and tools entering the site. Based on our previous knowledge of working at the Airport and close liaison with the Airport’s staff, we managed to complete the works on programme and on budget despite these constraints.
